This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts.
A couple of years ago, I decided to re-embrace my childhood. Halloween had become about the kids, as it should be - finding the perfect costumes, hosting Halloween parties, carving pumpkins, and toasting pumpkin seeds. I decided it would be even more fun for them if my husband and I surprised them on Halloween night with costumes of our own. Yes, it was a completely selfless act, done purely for the kids' entertainment. Right.
My boys were practicing their light saber skills in the family room, decked out in their Obi-Wan and Anakin costumes, when my husband and I appeared as Darth Vader and Queen Amidala. Yes indeed, we were ready for any Star Wars convention that might come to town. My parents were in town for the holiday and decided to get into the act in their clown and Mrs. Doubtfire costumes.
This year, the kids are turning to the dark side of Halloween. They decided it might be fun to be the ones doing the scaring, rather than the other way around. My youngest will be a ninja and my older son is going for the classic Dracula look. My husband and I are still deciding on our costumes, but Herman Munster and Elvira come to mind. I'm going to have to plaster the lot of us with reflectors and flashing lights so we can find each other on Halloween.
Whatever costumes we decide to wear, we will be certain to have plenty of treats on hand. Caramel apples and popcorn will adorn the table, alongside the mini chocolate bars and my kids' new favorite treat, Pop-Tarts® Choc-o-Lantern Chocolate Fudge toaster pastries. For their own health and welfare, I will have to take some of that candy of their hands and eat it myself. That is what dedicated parenting is all about - taking one for the team.

Being nine months pregnant I really have no energy to do a theme this year. If I am still pregnant at the end of the week, my big belly will be going as a pumpkin, my son will be Buzz Lightyear and my husband will be a party pooper!
This year I had to make costumes, but it wasn't all bad. My daughter wanted to be a banshee so I recycled her Princess costume from last year with a few gray streaks and remade it with strips of flowing gauze and she will love the white and gray makeup on Halloween and streaks of white painted through her hair. My son got the idea of being a Mummy when I was using the gauze for my daughters costume and his costume, thank goodness, will be easy to do by just winding strips of gauze around and around. :) I am dressing as Sweeney Todd with some old clothes from the Salvation Army.. complete with top hat courtesy of the Mall.. I am looking for some props before then and we are watching Sweeney Todd tonight so the kids can give me ideas. :)
one will be a fireman and the other a policeman
I don't have any kids yet...but I am going to be a clown for Halloween. Pretty simple: colorful pants and top, a big bright bow tie, some floppy shoes, and of course…a big red nose. It is a fun costume that I wear every few years when I can’t think of anything else.
I am not dressing up but my kids will be, A fairy, A Spiderweb girl, another Midnight Fairy, and a Gruesome Ghost.

i'm gonna be a sexy pumpkin. I made it myself!!! Lows of patchworking on the sewing machine but definitely worth the time!
I’m thinking of some movie character I can transform myself into with just what’s in my closet and craft bins. We’ll see…
I'd love to be a character from Glee or a roller derby girl. I'm still deciding. :)

My youngest has a ninja costume ready should he decide he wants to trick or treat. He may not though since his partner in crime turned 13 this year and technically is considered too old for trick or treat. Sigh.

Unfortunately the boys feel they are too old to dress up this year, and last year...now 16 and 13. If I do dress up this year to pass out candy I will do my fall back costume...Gypsy.
