Weekend Mornings & A Giveaway

This is sponsored content by BlogHer and Kelloggs.

Caprese Frittata with Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella & Basil Recipe

Looking back 10 years, weekend mornings meant waking up whenever my body was ready, nursing a cup of tea while lying in bed and reading the morning paper, and wandering up the street to our favorite bagel spot. Fast forward to present day...these mornings have changed radically. Each Saturday morning, I wake up before 6 am to meet my friend for our long run of the week. While stumbling out of bed, shoving half a banana into my mouth, and chugging down a glass of water is not what I would call relaxing, I always feel fantastic once the run is over. It makes me feel good physically and curbs the need to do something for myself.

Kelloggs8-2

The rest of Saturday is spent getting the kids ready for their soccer games. My husband and I make sure that they eat a healthy breakfast, such as cereal or a whole wheat bagel and fresh fruit. Off we go to the soccer fields to spend 3 to 4 hours cheering, running, kicking, and enjoying the time together. Really, it just does not get any better than watching our two boys run up and down the field, with huge smiles plastered to their faces. Pure joy.

Kelloggs8-1

Sunday is a little different. This is the day that my husband wakes up early for his long run. Since he is a marathoner, a long run means 20 to 23 miles. I'll stick with my 6 to 8 miles, thank you very much. While he is out knocking out the miles, the boys and I snuggle on the couch, watching cartoons and cruising my favorite food blogs. As you might imagine, my husband is famished when he returns from his run, so Sunday mornings are a day when we sit down to enjoy a hearty breakfast. Some of our favorites are Caprese Frittatas, Baked German Apple Pancakes, and Potato-Crusted Quiche.

Weekday mornings are usually busier. Weekend mornings start a bit later, and are usually more laid back. More time to cook...and enjoy :)

We LOVE to have French Toast!

Usually on a weekend my 4 y.o. son and I make a simple breakfast bread with raisins, candied ginger, and pineapple. He measures the flour very carefully and reminds me to put in the baking powder and a pinch of salt. He always begs for a taste of sugar (which I always decline). He also gets to mix- his favorite part. He also loves to grease the bread pan and most of all he loves to lick the spoon afterwards. The only thing is he can never wait for it to bake or cool down- he is ready to eat as soon as it gets in the oven.

On a really special morning that neither of us are working - like out anniversay, I'll make crepes suzette for my honey. This recipe, originated from Julia Child, is one that my brothers & I used as kids (sans alcohol of course!) to cheer our mother up.

On Sundays we go for better cereal choices and on Saturdays I usually make some type of egg dish

Amanda said...

During the week it's pretty much the same, cereal or toast, muffin, something simple. On the weekend however we do like to make something bigger. Pancakes or homemade waffles are a favorite, so are what my kids like to call a farmhouse buffet. We make a big batch of scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, bacon and toast. Everything goes on the table at once and for some reason the kids really enjoy that! :) Thank you for hosting this giveaway, very nice of you :)

With the kids grown and living their own lives, we hardly get to share a meal...so Sundays have become the day we all meet for breakfast at a local pancake house. I always eat eggs and fruit, but the rest of the clan orders french toast, pancakes, sausage, breakfast burritos...etc. It doesn't matter that we are not home in the kitchen, it only matters that we are together.

We usually sleep a little later on the weekends. I like to make something for breakfast and then eat it in bed - even if it is a bowl or cereal or peanut butter toast. I also love pancakes! If we leave early to run errands, we might stop at Einsten Bros. for a bagel or Chick-Fil-A for a chicken biscuit. Yum!

My husband and I are not young, as most others here, are. We are 83 years old, and married 61 years! We have 2 daughters living out of state, plus 2 Grandchildren.
Therefore our lives are very different. On Saturdays we call each of our daughters and find out what's going on in their lives. Our breakfast on Saturday is dull...cereal and juice. Sundays is MY day to make breakfast. I make either eggs and toast with strawberry jam, or else pancakes. It's a great life and we feel blessed.

Katie | FashionFrugality.com said...

I like to eat pretty healthy during the week: For breakfast I make a yogurt parfait to enjoy at work - lowfat vanilla yogurt, frozen raspberries (which thaw by my break) and healthy homemade granola. On the weekend, I change it up with a breakfast sandwich consisting of a toasted/buttered english muffin, scrambled eggs with some roasted garlic and a slice of sharp cheddar. Don't forget the coffee! :)
